Dedham is full of homes with real history behind them, and this classic Colonial is a great example. Sitting above the road behind a fieldstone wall, it features a gambrel roofline, three matching front dormers, and a flat roof deck tucked in behind. The homeowner called us for a complete roof replacement, and the job came with a few details that separate a real roofing crew from a cheap bid.

We started with a full tear off rather than a layover. That is the only way to see what the decking underneath is actually doing, and on older homes it is where you find the problems nobody knew about. From there we installed a new architectural shingle system across the main roof and all three dormers. Dormers add beautiful curb appeal, but each one creates valleys, sidewalls, and flashing transitions where leaks start when a roof is rushed. We take our time on every one of them.

The homeowner selected Driftwood, a weathered grey blend that plays perfectly against the warm tan siding and white trim. It reads as timeless rather than trendy, which matters on a house with this much character.

The flat roof deck needed a different solution. Shingles do not belong on a flat surface because water sits instead of shedding, so we installed a rubber membrane system built to handle standing water, snow load, and New England freeze and thaw cycles. A railing system for the deck is scheduled next, and we will update this project once it is installed.
